Downey was proud to launch its Los Angeles office in November 2008 managed by Glynn Turner who realized his dream to move to the USA and take our company with him.
Glynn Turner is the son of Downey’s Chief Executive Officer in the UK; he also shares the same passion for beautiful stationery and has seen Downey grow. Please contact him for your requirements by email or telephone. With the time difference in the UK and USA, we are practically at your service 24 hours.
In 2003 Downey & Co celebrated its first century as engravers and printers of the highest quality. Founded in London’s West End by Mr Alfred Downey, the company established its reputation as a specialist in fine English hand engraving. In 1912, as a young apprentice, Harold Wolfenden, joined the company. He became one of England’s most iconic hand engravers, famous for his heraldic work and stamp engravings. In 1929 William Turner joined as his apprentice and thirty years later, took over. ‘Bill Turner’ as everyone in the trade knew him, also gained the status of Master Engraver, some years later he brought in his two eldest sons Barry and Grahame who were apprenticed as hand engravers and about this time machine engraving was introduced (cutting edge technology at the time).
The 1970’s saw the company expand into printing with the addition of several die stamping machines and under the guidance of William Turner’s youngest son Christopher was able to expand the business whilst still maintaining the most stringent standards of quality achieved with it’s engraving.
The client base grew; the directors realized that to be successful in a changing world, being a fine quality printer was not enough. To be more successful Downey needed to work even more closely with its clients and focus more upon their needs, working to their deadlines. From this day, their focus changed from solely printing excellence to one of superb client service. Downey prints fantastic stationery and invitations. Joseph and Leo are the most recent Turners and third generation of the family to enter the business continuing to uphold Downey’s reputation for innovation with our widely used online proofing and ordering tools.
Today Downey & Co remains a proud family business with its headquarters in London, England. Acknowledged by many as one of the England’s finest stationery printers, it remains true to the high values of craftsmanship and customer service developed over 100 years.
